Steering W heel and Main Shaft Assembly
Steering Wheel Position Adjustment
•
Loosen the steering shaft mounting nuts [A].
•
Adjust the s teering wheel position.
•
Tighten the main shaft bracket mounting nuts securely.
Steering Wheel Free Play Inspection
•
Refer to the Steering Inspection in the Periodic Mainte-
nance chapter.
Steering Wheel Centering
•
Test ride the vehicle.
If the steering wheel is not straight when the vehicle is
traveling in a straight line, do the following.
•
Check the tie-rod length and adjust it if necessary.
•
Remove the wheel cap and horn switch (see Steering
Wheel and Steering Shaft R emoval).
•
Loosen the steering wheel mounting nut [A].
•
Push the vehicle in a straight line with no one aboard, and
stop it without turning the steering wheel.
•
Remount the steering wheel so that it is straight ahead.
•
Install the spring washer and tighten the mounting nut.
Torque - Steering W heel Mounting Nut: 52 N ·m (5.3 kgf·m,
38 ft·lb)
•
Install the horn switch and wheel cap (see Steering Wheel
and Steering Shaft Installation).
•
Be sure to register the EPS neutral position (see EPS
Neutral Position Registration).
Steering Wheel and Steering Shaft Removal
•
Remove the wheel cap [A].
○
Pry the wheel cap with a thin driver [B].
